To mitigate the effects of an El Nino-induced drought on food security, Zimbabwe intends to import 1.1 million metric tons of maize over the next year. The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) has already arranged contracts for importing 600,000 metric tons of maize. The maize harvest for 2024 is projected to decrease to 1.1 million tons, down from approximately 2.3 million tons previously, due to the influence of El Nino.
