United States agribusiness sector has suggested that India should import ethanol and corn to meet its target of 20% ethanol-blended petrol by 2025. India is promoting maize as an alternative feedstock to increase ethanol production while ensuring sugar availability. However, maize production is estimated to decrease to 32.4 million MT from 38 million MT last year according to the Government of India's estimates.
