The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon has arrived in Kerala and progressed into most parts of northeast India today, May 30, 2024. Kerala is experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall in most areas.

Typically, the southwest monsoon reaches Kerala by June 1 and advances over most of northeast India by June 5. Therefore, the monsoon has arrived in Kerala two days earlier than usual and has reached northeast India six days ahead of the normal schedule.
