India's Vegetable Oil Imports Surge 18% in June, Driven by Palm and Sunflower Oils

Imports of vegetable oils, both edible and non-edible, increased by 18 percent in June, reaching 1.55 million tonnes, driven by higher imports of crude palm oil and crude sunflower oil, according to trade data. The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) reported that vegetable oil imports in June 2024 were 1,550,659 tonnes, up from 1,314,476 tonnes in the same period last year. Palm oil imports in June were 7.83 lakh tonnes, up from 7.63 lakh tonnes in May. Sunflower oil imports surged to 4.67 lakh tonnes in June from 4.10 lakh tonnes in May. However, soybean oil imports declined to 2.75 lakh tonnes in June from 3.22 lakh tonnes in May.
