The Indian government has issued an order allowing traders to export their delayed non-basmati white rice cargoes from ports, which were held up due to an unexpected ban on such exports. The ban, imposed on 20 July to stabilize local prices, caused significant disruption for dealers. Reportedly, these cargoes can only be exported if export duties are paid by the ban's start date. Previously, non-basmati white rice exports attracted a 20 percent tax before the July ban. Rice exporters estimate that approximately 150,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice will be released from various ports, especially Kandla Port, following the government's order. This action has brought relief to rice exporters as blocked shipments were causing operational difficulties.
