According to reports, In June, India purchased a record-breaking amount of sunflower oil, at 500,000 metric tons. This is because sunflower oil prices were competitive with soy and palm oil from Russia and Ukraine, major suppliers of these oils. The war between these two countries has reduced sunflower oil supplies in the Black Sea region. Sunflower oil prices were lower due to aggressive competition from Russia, Ukraine, and Argentina. Sunflower oil was being sold for less than soy and palm oil, which led Indian buyers to switch to sunflower oil, particularly in southern India where demand is high.

India set a new record by buying 500,000 metric tons of sunflower oil for delivery in June. This is because competition between leading suppliers Russia and Ukraine drove down prices, making sunflower oil cheaper than soybean and palm oil, two other popular vegetable oils. According to a customs official, this significant purchase by the world's biggest importer of vegetable oils will help reduce sunflower oil stockpiles in the Black Sea region and boost sunflower oil prices.
